Baccarat Guide: Rules, Drawing Table and Bet Types

Short answer: Baccarat deals a Player hand and a Banker hand, then follows fixed rules to decide whether either hand receives a third card. You normally bet on Player, Banker or Tie before the cards are dealt. The hand closest to nine wins. The labels Player and Banker are betting positions, not the people seated at the table.

Baccarat Card Values

• Aces count as 1.

• Tens, jacks, queens and kings count as 0.

Player, Banker and Tie Bets

• Player: wins if the Player hand finishes closer to nine.

• Tie: wins if both hands finish with the same total.

Baccarat Drawing Rules

The player does not choose whether to hit or stand in standard punto banco. The game follows this sequence:

1. Two cards are dealt to each hand.
2. If either opening hand is a natural 8 or 9, both hands normally stand.
3. If there is no natural, the Player rule is applied.
4. The Banker rule is then applied using the Player's action and, where relevant, the value of the Player's third card.

• Player total 0 to 5: draw a third card.
• Player total 6 or 7: stand.
• Player total 8 or 9: natural, so no third card is drawn.

If the Player stands, the Banker draws on totals 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7, subject to the table's published natural rule.

If the Player draws a third card, the standard Banker rule is:

• Banker 0, 1 or 2: draw regardless of the Player's third card.
• Banker 3: draw unless the Player's third card is 8.
• Banker 4: draw when the Player's third card is 2 through 7.
• Banker 5: draw when the Player's third card is 4 through 7.
• Banker 6: draw when the Player's third card is 6 or 7.
• Banker 7: stand.

You do not need to memorise this table to place a standard wager because the dealer or software applies it. Understanding it helps you verify that baccarat is not a game where the bettor decides whether either hand draws.

Banker Commission and No-Commission Games

In a traditional paytable, a winning Banker bet commonly pays 1 to 1 before a 5 percent commission. A 10 unit winning stake would therefore return the stake plus 9.5 units of profit.

No-commission baccarat removes the routine deduction but modifies another result, often by reducing the payout when Banker wins with a particular total. The exact rule varies. The words no commission do not prove that the game has no house edge or a better expected return.

Why the Tie Bet Needs a Separate Check

A Tie bet pays more because ties occur less often than either main hand winning. The payout can look attractive, but it is a separate product with a different mathematical cost.

A run of Banker results does not prove another Banker result is due, and alternating results do not create a dependable sequence. A staking progression changes exposure after each hand, not the probability or payout of the next hand.

RNG baccarat uses software to deal the result. Live baccarat streams physical cards and a dealer from a studio. The format changes the presentation, not the need to verify rules, commission, side-bet paytables and limits.
