Paris Saint-Germain Retain UEFA Super Cup with 2-1 Victory Over Aston Villa

Paris Saint-Germain lifted their second consecutive UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night, overcoming a resilient Aston Villa side 2–1 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué proved decisive for the French champions, cancelling out a late first-half equalizer from Villa’s young forward Brian Madjo.

With this success, Luis Enrique’s side became only the fourth team in European football history to win back-to-back Super Cups, following in the footsteps of Ajax, AC Milan, and Real Madrid. For Aston Villa, participating in their first Super Cup since 1982, the performance offered plenty of encouragement despite the narrow defeat.

The decisive moment arrived in the 61st minute. A patient 12-pass sequence around the perimeter of the Villa box dragged defenders out of position. The ball was fed centrally to Désiré Doué, who took one controlling touch before dispatching an angled, low finish into the bottom right corner. Doué’s strike restored PSG’s advantage at 2–1 and proved to be the match-winning goal.

Aston Villa pushed forward in search of another equalizer during the final twenty minutes. Emery introduced fresh attacking legs off the bench, switching to a more direct style. Villa managed two late corner kicks and a long-range effort that sailed over the crossbar, but PSG’s defensive unit held firm through four minutes of stoppage time to seal the win.

This victory represents PSG’s 61st official trophy in club history and marks a successful start to their 2026/27 campaign following their 2025 Super Cup win against Tottenham Hotspur. Aston Villa will turn their attention back to domestic action, taking confidence from a competitive display against the reigning European champions.
