German club Borussia Dortmund have booked their place in the Round of 16. Last night, they faced off against AC Milan at the iconic San Siro, where the German side stunned AC Milan and secured the match with a comfortable victory. This defeat moved AC Milan to the bottom of the table in the Group of Death. The Round of 16 dream is almost over for the Rossonerri following the defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

As it happened

At San Siro, AC Milan welcomed Borussia Dortmund in a do-or-die game. Managers from the two sides played their teams in a 4-2-3-1 formation respectively. With Olivier Giroud in the front, Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, and Chukwueze at the back, Milan boss Stefano Pioli set up his attack. On the other hand, Dortmund's manager Edin Terzić used Fullkrug to lead the attack along with Reus, Malen, and Bynoe-Gittens. However, the match started with both sides playing very aggressive football. AC Milan had a massive chance to go ahead of the game when they got a penalty kick in just four minutes. Olivier Giroud stepped forward to take the spot kick, but he missed a important chance. Six minutes later, Borussia Dortmund also got a penalty kick when Milan captain Calabria made a handball inside the box. Marcus Reus, however, took the spot kick and didn't make any mistakes like Giroud. As a result, the visitors took an early lead at San Siro. However, AC Milan found the equalizer before the half-time. Samuel Chukwueze scored a spectacular goal with his individual effort, giving AC Milan a much-needed goal in the 37th minute. The first half saw no more goals as both teams couldn't find the net in the remaining minutes. But Borussia Dortmund became more dominant after coming from the break. They created so many chances in the second half and got another goal just at the beginning of the first half. In the 59th minute, Bynoe-Gittens helped the visitors to take the lead once again. After that, AC Milan couldn't get back into the game. Although they tried very hard to find the equalizer, they couldn't score in the remaining minutes. The Rossonerri conceded the third goal when Karim Adeyemi scored in the 69th minute for the visitors. The striker found the net with the help of Marcel Sabitzer, which secured the match for the German side.

Edin Terzic on winning the game

Borussia Dortmund's manager Edin Terzic is very pleased to qualify for the last 16 from the Group of Death. He said, "We're very happy that we have managed to qualify prematurely from the Group of Death. The fact that we've managed to win two away matches is not to be taken for granted either. We had a few lads on their last legs. The doctor told us beforehand who could play 30 minutes, who could play 45, and who could play 60. We now have a bit more time to recover because we're only playing again on Sunday."
