As It Happened
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti set up his team formation with a 4-4-2 formation, making a diamond-shaped midfield with Tony Kroos, Valverde, Luka Modric, and Jude Bellingham. Meanwhile, Barca boss Xavi Hernandez played his team in a classic 4-3-3 formation, where Robert Lewandowski led the attack along with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. The match started with Barcelona taking an early lead. They were really dominant in the first half at Santiago Bernabeu. They took the lead in just 6 minutes when Andreas Christensen scored a brilliant goal with a header. However, Real Madrid didn't take much time to find the equalizer. Lucas Vazquez earned a penalty kick for the Los Blancos, from where Vinicius Junior found the leveler in the 17th minute. The two teams couldn't score more in the first half despite having tons of chances. Coming back from the break, Barcelona tried to create more pressure on the home team. Finally, they took the lead again as Fermin Lopez scored a brilliant goal in the 69th minute. Real Madrid, after that, showed their hunger and immediately leveled the scoreline within two minutes. Lucas Vazquez, who won the first penalty for Real Madrid, registered his name for the second goal. He converted Vinicius Junior's brilliant cross into a goal in the 73rd minute. The match seemed to end with a tie, but the drama was yet to come. Real Madrid became very aggressive in the final ten minutes and pushed highly to take the lead. Finally, Jude Bellingham stole all the spotlight when he scored a late goal for the Los Blancos. He found the back of the net in the 90th minute with the help of Lucas Vazquez to secure all three points for Real Madrid. Real Madrid are now on the edge of winning their 36th league title following their win against their arch-rival Barcelona.Xavi Is Disappointed
Barca boss Xavi Hernandez didn't hide his frustration after losing to Real Madrid. "It's a shame because we worked hard and things got away from us due to situations we can't control: Defending in the area, stopping a clear counterattack. We have to accept defeat, even though it will be tough because it was not deserved, but we have to continue with the goal of finishing second to get to the Spanish Super Cup," Xavi said in the post-match press conference.Related reading
