West Indies, the champions of the 1975 ODI World Cup and the runner-up of the 1979 and 1983 world cups, have failed to qualify for the upcoming ICC Men's ODI World Cup. Their hopes for playing in the main stage ended today as Scotland knocked them out from the Super Six of the Qualifier round. Scotland defeated the Caribbeans by seven wickets at Harare Sports Club.

As it happened

In the Super Six, West Indies faced off Scottland today at Harare Sports Club. It was a must-win game for the Caribbeans to keep their hope alive for the World Cup. However, Scottish skipper Richie Berrington won the toss and opted to bowl first in this important match. So, Brandon King and Johnson Charles stepped into the crease to start the batting innings for West Indies. But the Caribbeans had a nightmare starting the innings. West Indies lost their first wicket in just a second over as Scottish bowler Brandon McMullen drew the first blood. He picked up Johnos Charles. Sharmarh Brooks, the following batter, also had gone duck. It was Brandon McMullen again to take the wicket. After that, Brandon King tried hard to build a partnership with the skipper Shai Hope. Unfortunately, they also failed to contribute much. Scottish bowlers were ruthless today against the Caribbean. Due to their aggression, West Indies became six men down in 81 runs. However, Jason Holder fought for his life to make a good result. He remained very calm and didn't play much risky shots. With three boundaries and one over the boundary, Holder scored the highest 45 off 79 for the team. He was looking good but departed the crease after being LBW in the 37.1 over. Apart from his innings, the remaining batters couldn't contribute much. Therefore, West Indies became all out in just 181 runs. Brandon McMullen picked up three wickets, while Chris Sole, Mark Watt, and Chris Greaves got two wickets respectively. Defending a small target, bowler Jason Holder gave a flying start to the Caribbeans. He picked up a wicket in the very first ball of the innings. It seemed West Indies could fight well with a tiny target. But Matthew Cross was brilliant in the crease. He made a match-winning partnership with Brandon McMullen. Together they picked up 125 runs on the scoreboard, which built a basement for Scotland. However, Brandon lost his wicket after scoring 69 runs, but Matthew Cross remained not out in this match. His unbeaten 74 runs secured the victory against West Indies. As a result, West Indies have been eliminated from the Qualifiers of the ICC World Cup.
