After winning the T20 World Cup, India do not have much time for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. However, India already whitewashed Sri Lanka in the T20 series by winning all three games. And the ODI series starts today at Premadasa Stadium. Although India won all three T20 games against Sri Lanka, captain Rohit Sharma does not want to take the ODI series as practice games. He said, "It's not a practice ground , it's still an international game. We will keep in Our mind what we would like to achieve as a team, but this is by no means preparation or practice or anything like that. We want to come here and play good cricket and get something out of the series , it is as simple as that." Meanwhile, Sri Lankan coach Sanath Jayasuriya takes all the responsibility for their poor performance in the T20 series. But the former Lankan cricketer keeps giving his team support and confidence. "There is no excuse for us to say anything, and for us to win is the ultimate thing. It's disappointing as a coach, but we have to take the criticism as well, as a coach, as a support staff, as a team. We are taking the responsibility, you can't go away from that. As long as they realise that, and make sure that, we'll have to keep giving them the confidence and support," stated Sanath Jayasuriya.

They had four pacers out of the team through injury, but the situation got worse. Two more pacers, Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana, have been ruled out for this ODI series. Dilshan Madushanaka has been suffering from a hamstring injury, while Matheesha Pathirana picked up an injury in his shoulder. However, the Lankan board replaced them with two uncapped pacers, Mohamed Shiraz and Eshan Malinga. As for India, Rishab Pant has returned to the ODI squad after a long 2 Years.
