What changed on Orbit Exchange?
The team operating the service confirmed directly to SureBets that commission increased from 2.5% to 5%, without giving a public explanation. That doubles the percentage deducted from net winning markets. It does not double the stake, liability or every cost connected with exchange betting.
Orbit is generally accessed through a broker or another account provider. That matters because the Orbit name on the trading screen does not by itself establish the commercial agreement behind the account. Public Orbit material currently shows different rates for different access routes. One Orbit broker comparison lists one route at 2% and another at 3%. Those public pages show that rates can vary by access route, but they do not explain the confirmed increase to 5%.
Has Orbit explained why commission increased?
Not in any public notice we could verify by 28 July 2026. We searched current Orbit-facing broker pages and recent search results for an announcement, effective date or revised universal fee schedule. We did not find one that documents a general change from 2.5% to 5%.
Without a notice from the company that controls the account, any claim about the reason would be speculation. The provider may have ended a promotional rate, changed the account's commercial tier, altered its own margin, moved the account to another package or passed through a new cost. Those are possible explanations, not confirmed facts.
Ask support for a written answer to four questions:
- Which company applies the confirmed 5% rate to your account: Orbit, the broker or another provider?
- Does the confirmed 5% rate use net market profit or another calculation basis?
- What date and time did the new rate take effect?
- Which term in the customer agreement permits the change, and was notice issued?
Save the reply and the fee screen. A chat message is more useful when it names the contracting company, the exact calculation basis and the effective date.
How much does 5% commission actually cost?
Exchange commission is normally calculated from net profit on a winning market, but the exact basis must be checked in the account terms. On that common model, the arithmetic is simple:
Commission = net market profit x commission rate
| Net market profit | Fee at 2.5% | Fee at 5% | Extra cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| £100 | £2.50 | £5.00 | £2.50 |
| £1,000 | £25 | £50 | £25 |
| £10,000 | £250 | £500 | £250 |
| £50,000 | £1,250 | £2,500 | £1,250 |
At decimal odds of 2.00, a £100 winning back bet produces £100 gross profit. A 2.5% fee leaves £97.50 profit, equivalent to net odds of 1.975. A 5% fee leaves £95, equivalent to net odds of 1.95. A 3% fee would leave £97, equivalent to net odds of 1.97.
Use the free betting exchange commission calculator to test your own odds and rate. The calculator models a flat commission. It cannot account for a provider-specific premium charge, currency conversion, withdrawal fee, partial fill or worse accepted price.
Why the increase matters most to active traders
A casual user with £100 of annual net winning markets pays only £2.50 more when the rate moves from 2.5% to 5%. A high-volume trader with £50,000 of net winning markets pays £1,250 more. The percentage change is identical, but the operational impact is not.
Matched bettors and arbitrage bettors also work with narrow margins. A fee change can turn a valid hedge into a poor trade if the lay stake was calculated using the old rate. Update every calculator, spreadsheet, bot and saved exchange profile before placing the next position. Do not assume an old default is still correct.
Commission is only one part of execution cost. A nominally cheaper exchange can still produce a worse outcome if the required stake is not available at the displayed price. Compare accepted odds, matched size, slippage, settlement rules and withdrawal costs together.
Is the 2.5% Orbit offer still available?
SureBets previously promoted a 2.5% Orbit commission offer. We no longer treat that promise as current. Our Orbit 2.5% offer status page now records the confirmed change and tells readers to check the fee inside their own account.
Other public providers may still quote lower Orbit rates. A headline on a marketing page is not enough. Confirm whether the rate applies to new or existing users, all sports, net market profit or each winning bet, and whether any additional provider fee is charged.
Should you leave Orbit after a move to 5%?
A 5% rate is a strong reason to compare alternatives, but not a reason to move blindly. Record the 5% rate now applied to Orbit, then compare the net result on markets you actually use.
For each candidate platform, record:
- commission and its exact calculation basis;
- best available price for the same selection at the same time;
- matched amount at that price and at the next two price levels;
- deposit, conversion, network and withdrawal costs;
- market coverage and settlement rules;
- who holds the balance and handles disputes;
- country eligibility and identity requirements.
Our Orbit Exchange alternatives guide applies that framework and explains when a lower fee is likely to outweigh the cost and friction of switching.
How SharkBetX compares on commission
SharkBetX currently uses a 3% standard account setting. Its client interface displays the commission level attached to the account. That is 40% lower than a 5% headline rate, or £20 less commission for every £1,000 of net winning markets under the same simplified calculation.
The products are not identical. SharkBetX presents Polymarket markets through a sports-focused back and lay interface and settles on Polygon. Coverage follows the available underlying markets, funding is crypto-native and geographic restrictions can apply. Its public homepage also does not yet provide a complete legal and fee schedule, so verify the displayed account rate, current terms and eligibility before funding.
Polymarket's official builder fee documentation explains that builder and platform fees can be additive and that fee rates are publicly queryable. This is another reason to compare the total charge shown for the exact market, not one marketing percentage in isolation.
A safe response checklist
- Stop using any saved 2.5% calculator preset.
- Capture the current commission screen and one settled-market statement.
- Ask the account provider for the written reason and effective date.
- Check whether open positions will settle under the old or new rate.
- Recalculate active matched-betting and arbitrage positions.
- Compare at least three real markets on any replacement platform.
- Test a small deposit, bet and withdrawal before moving a larger balance.
- Keep only the balance needed for planned positions.

Responsible gambling
Lower commission cannot make a negative-expectation bet safe or profitable. Exchange betting can lose the full stake or lay liability, and unmatched orders can leave unintended exposure. Set a fixed maximum loss, never borrow to bet and stop if gambling affects bills, sleep, work or relationships. See our responsible gambling policy for support options.
